PATIENT’S HEALING JOURNEY FROM CHRONIC LYME DISEASE WITH FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE THERAPY
A 24 year old student travelled across his country to address his unidentified health issues and extreme suffering as result of undiagnosed underlying conditions. He had complaints of insomnia (was sleeping less than 3 hours/day), frequent anxiety and panic attacks, lack of focus, ADHD, excessive irritability, poor gut health- gas, bloating, acid reflux, he was only consuming a few vegetables like bottle guard, pumpkin, raw banana and rice, as anything else apart from these caused abdominal pain and diarrhoea to him. He also had complaints of joint stiffness and knee pain specifically post waking up.
Complete screening was done which included blood work, hormone testing, Lyme, EBV, Candida. He was also tested for toxic metal poisoning, trace mineral. Metabolomix, comprehensive stool test and food intolerance test were also done.
He was found positive for Lyme IgG @56.13 (normal: <15) (Pic1), and Candida IgG(Pic2). His EBVIgG antibody was high @30.50 (normal: <8) (Pic3). Overall body hormones were imbalanced. Mineral test report revealed deficiency of crucial minerals like magnesium, phosphorus, and chromium. Heavy Metal report showed overall intoxication in the system.
Stool comprehensive analysis (pic5) showed positive Salmonella spp. and E.coli.
Apart from that low elastase digestive enzyme was found. Secretory IgA which represents gut immunity was way below normal i.e. 4.5 mg/dl ( 30-275).
Metabolomix report (Pic 7) revealed high oxidative stress, methylation imbalances, multiple amino acid deficiencies, low levels of glutathione, very low levels of vitamin C, critically low level of riboflavin, magnesium, zinc, niacin etc.
He was started on Lyme treatment protocol with nutraceuticals. And then in the second phase IV therapy with high dose vitamin C and ozone were administered. Candida treatment protocol was also started simultaneously. Thorough gut cleansing was done along with bio-film bursting enemas.
Nutraceuticals were advised to compensate the deficient minerals, vitamins and amino acids. Peptide therapy treatment was carried out for six weeks. He was also given specific diet regimen to follow.
Remarkable improvements were seen after a period of 3 months, LYME (Borrelia burgdorferi) antibody has come down to 30.17aU/mL from 56.13 aU/mL (Pic 8).
He mentioned he is much calmer, have clearer thoughts, negligible anxiety or panic attacks, his sleep improved- now is able to sleep for 6-8 hours, better memory and focus, improved cognition. His gut health also improved, however, needs more attention. Hence, he was sent off to his home country with a gut protocol which he can easily follow.
