IS HIGH INDEX GLYCEMIC FOOD MAKING YOU SICK ?
The glycemic index (GI) is a rating system for foods containing carbohydrates. Blood sugar and insulin levels rise every time you eat something containing carbohydrates. How it affects your blood sugar level, and how fast, depends on the food one eats.
Food high on the glycemic index release glucose rapidly. Carbohydrate foods that are broken down quickly by your body and cause a rapid increase in blood glucose have a high GI rating. High GI foods include:
- sugar and sugary foods
- sugary soft drinks
- white bread
- potatoes
- white rice and many more
The high glucose level in the body can cause several health issues like obesity, increase risk of heart disease, strokes, heart attacks, vision loss or blindness, weakened immune system, risk of infections, erectile dysfunction, nerve damage also called neuropathy, which causes tingling, pain, or less sensation in your feet, legs, and hands. Poor circulation to the legs and feet, slow wound-healing, and other systemic disorders.
Keep your blood sugar levels close to normal to avoid many of these complications. Let us be aware of our diet and take charge of our health and live disease-free.
