In 2022 How Do Parents Safeguard Their Child’s Health – Functional Medicine Doctor in India
Since 2019 we have been facing a pandemic situation of Covid-19. We were in a lockdown period. Which brings stress, uncertainty, anxiety, and children strongly deal with this. This Covid-19 situation very much affected the children’s health.
Children are away from their school, friends, playground, so they are suffering from a lot of emotions that they may not be able to understand, so they need to be loved and supported, especially now.
What the parents can do:
When it’s about safety, children blindly depend on their parents physically and mentally. So, assure them that you are always there for them, just by your side.
- Clear your children’s doubts with honesty about the epidemic. Talk about the important news also, there is no problem if you talk about the pandemic and remember to tell the safety steps like handwashing, sanitizer, wearing clean clothes with cover the body and face, and staying home that will keep your child and family health.
- Understand your children’s emotions. They are missing the moments with their friends, for example, their playground, funny things they do, etc. talk about them. This type of question gives them pleasure like you can ask that before this pandemic, how will you do fun with your friends?
- Keep them in touch with their grandparents. Because sometimes they felt bad for their grandparents who live alone. Because they can tell your children different kinds of stories, will play some games, children will enjoy this because the grandparents will give them full attention and which they needed the most that time. Physically visits aren’t possible so do video chats with your close relative or friends that will also help to reduce their anxiety.
- Tell them how you survive your feelings and emotions, give them some lessons about how one can manage their emotions.
- If you go to bring some essential thing or any work tell them for how much time you’re going, when will you come and please assure them that you are going outside with safety?
- Give them hope that this situation is not permanent; scientists are trying hard to save people from this epidemic situation. Last but not least, tell your children I love you and hug them very often.
Keep a healthy and positive routine:
All children and even teens need to maintain a proper bedtime routine and other things to keep in routine. In this uncertain time, it is very much important to keep yourself in a routine; it is very effective for children. It has many benefits.
- Sometimes change your scheduled routine with new things, when possible, break up with school work and instead of that, do some active play in the morning and have snacks in breakfast. Change in the wake-up routines, dressed up sometimes.
- Do some exercise, lunch, social time with friends and do schoolwork in the afternoon. Spend family time reading books before sleep.
- During this epidemic situation, everyone is disturbed and irritated, or anxious sometimes. Teenagers are much more irritated because they miss their activities, events, and enjoyment with their friends.
- Children are bored and don’t know things better, so sometimes they do bad behavior. Tell them to draw pictures of how can they be safe in this situation and hang it up on your wall. They will feel better. Give them their favorite staff and toys to play with. Keep them busy
- Give your attention to them. Behave better with them and point out that praise success. In this stressful time, give them privileges and reward to enjoy their schoolwork also.
- Staying home 24/7 is an irritating thing for everyone and your children also so give them some special time. For example, reading or cooking together or playing favorite games. Let your child choose the game, and you choose the time. Once in every few days is effective for your child. Keep your phone aside so that you don’t get distracted.
Give your child your love, attention, support, and some positive affirmation so that they can be motivated. Don’t put them alone with their messed-up emotions. Sometimes keep aside your work and spend some time with them. In this critical time, children need their parents the most. And if needed, get a doctor consultation for managing your child’s behavior and mixed emotions.
