Low cholesterol can lead to violent behaviour, suicide, depression, anxiety, delinquency, bipolar disease, Parkinson’s disease, and other chronic illnesses!
Surprisingly a high percentage of children with autism have below normal cholesterol levels which can significantly affect their autistic symptoms.
We are in times when media attention is leading us to believe cholesterol is evil. cholesterol deficiency is one of the most overlooked causative factors for a variety of chronic diseases and health issues. There are clear scientific studies which speak of the benefits of increasing cholesterol in people who have hit low levels. Cholesterol is an important factor in the receptor sites of the cells binding with the appropriate neurotransmitter, in particular acetylcholine and serotonin.Long term use of statins showed significant changes in the structure and function of serotonin cell receptors. Serotonin is responsible for fighting off depression and anxiety. Having improper structure and function at these sites will lead to depression in a high number of cases. This is most certainly a topic that should be discussed with your doctor before being placed on a statin drug.
